Days turned weeks and weeks into months as they awaited their supposed fate.

“Relax, we’ll be fine. They can’t take our house. We’ve prayed.” Joy mindlessly spoke, encouraging Daniel and herself.

“But what if they do? What then becomes of us?” “We’ll keep trusting God then.” She murmured. Cold shivers went down her spine as they waited anxiously in the office lobby. Her legs shook frantically.

Daniel put his arms around her shoulder, drew her close and whispered into her ears, “Relax, we got this, okay?”

Joy nodded and stopped shaking. “Hmm okay.”

“The MD would like to see you in his office,” came the secretary’s voice.

“Okay.” They stood, walked hand-in-hand into the MD’s office and took their seats before him.

Clearing his throat, he began, “Er, Mr Idechi, right?”

Daniel nodded. “Yes sir.”

“Okay. There seems to be a problem with the document you signed.

”Daniel became confused. “A problem? What problem, sir?”

“It’s okay, you don’t need to panic. I mean, you were sent the wrong document by HR. That wasn’t the one I assigned. I’m sorry for the inconvenience it might have caused. Here’s the right letter of your promotion.”

To their amazement, he brought out a new document and gave it to them.

Joy was speechless and overjoyed (no pun intended.) But it’s not yet over.

“Sir… you mean… em… what about the old document I signed?”

“Oh, that…” The manager reached out to a folder in his desk, brought it out and dropped it on the table. “Here’s the document you previously signed. As I said, I’m sorry for the inconvenience caused. The wrong document was sent to you. And I can assure you, I’ll get to the root of the matter and fish out those involved.”

Daniel’s mouth dropped open as he looked at the manager and then at his wife. He was lost for words as he tried to gather his thoughts.

“Wow, so we’re not losing our properties?” He inquired, not fully convinced.

“No, you’re not. The company would never ask for such. This is the document. I advise you to take it home and destroy it.”Joy hurriedly took it and arranged it into her bag. The manager chuckled, reclining into his seat.

“I’m sorry madam for the panic this might have caused.”

Finally finding her voice, Joy muttered, “These things happen. I appreciate your efforts in looking into this. Thank you, sir, and God bless.”

He nodded.

“Yes, er, Mr Idechi,” Daniel looked at him. “Kindly take this new document home, carefully review it, and get back to me. The offer still stands – an official car and house. If you have any complaints or feedback, don’t hesitate to reach out to me. Have a nice day.”

“Thank you, sir, thank you, sir,” they chorused, exiting the office.”

“Is this how God works?”

“Ah, yes o. And in the end, my beautiful wife was right. ‘All things work together for good for those who love Him and are called according to his purpose.’” He mimicked her.

“Go joor.” She playfully punched him.

“Honey, what are you thinking?” Joy flinched. Daniel had been standing there for a while.

“Oh, sorry, I didn’t notice you. I was just thinking of God’s faithfulness towards us.”

He sighed with his right hand on the railing and his left hand around Joy’s waist. “Indeed, his will matters in all things.

”Resting her head on his shoulder, she replied, “Yes, love, it does.”

They gazed into the clouds, pointing at fascinating sights. As night fell, they retired to bed.

The end.
